A special edition of Sherlock, the hit drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, is to be shown in more than 100 cinemas on New Year's Day, to complement the TV broadcast on BBC One.

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride, a one-off episode set in Victorian London in 1895, will be shown in venues including Picturehouse Cinemas, Odeon, Cineworld and Vue.

BBC Worldwide UK, in partnership with Hartswood Films, said cinemagoers will be treated to exclusive bonus material, including a guided tour of 221B Baker Street from co-creator and executive producer Steven Moffat and a look behind the scenes at how the episode was made.

Tickets go on sale on November 2.
