Nicholson wakes up in trees

Jack Nicholson has always been able to "sort himself out" no matter what state he's woken in.

The 76-year-old's love of wild parties is legendary and he's known as one of the original Hollywood womanisers. Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards famously said he once had to tell Jack to go home, but the actor insists he has always been able to take care of himself.

"Contrary to opinion, however sated I got, I always looked after myself. I’m in good shape — a little stout, but healthy. And I’ve done it all," he told British newspaper The Sun.

“I’ve woken up in trees, I’ve woken up almost hanging off cliffs, but I’ve always known how to sort myself out."

Jack has noticed many changes as he's succumbed to the ageing process. He is now careful about the kind of women he approaches as it "doesn't feel right" to "hit on" ladies these days. The star mourns his past life, especially as he has found himself having to stage a new beauty routine.

"If men are honest, everything they do and everywhere they went was for a chance to see women. A lot of me being an actor was about that, and about me.

"There were points in my life when I felt oddly irresistible to women. I’m not in that state now, which makes me sad," he explained.

"Some of [the change] isn’t so great, like the hair that comes and the hair that goes.

“Now I don’t have any hair below my sock line, and that means you’re getting old, Jackie boy. It comes out of my ears instead. I mean, how many times have I slashed my earlobes?"

The star was happy to discuss his love life, admitting he regrets never having a relationship which lasted. He romanced Anjelica Huston on and off for around 16 years and was deeply affected by their final break-up in 1989.

"That annihilated me. I’m kind of childish emotionally and I did make a mistake in the way I handled it," he said.

"I would love that one last romance, a real romance, but I’m not very realistic about it happening. What I can’t deny is my yearning.

" No woman has ever recognised what I say as being legitimate. They don’t trust me. They think of my reputation — Jack the Jumper — so I’m dammed by what women think."

Earlier this month it was claimed the star was quitting acting because his memory was failing. The claims were later denied, although Jack had admitted he isn't that interested in his career anymore. He has lost his drive and doesn't feel the need to be part of Hollywood anymore.
