Nick Cannon: I’m praying for Bynes
Nick Cannon can't do anything to help Amanda Bynes other than "pray".
Speculation about the 27-year-old star's mental state has been rife for some time, with reports Amanda has been talking to herself in an unintelligible language for weeks. She is currently in a psychiatric hold after starting a fire outside a residence in California on Monday.
The troubled actress' former Nickelodeon co-star Nick says his thoughts are with her at this testing time.
"She's in my prayers," he told TMZ. "I'm praying for her. That's all you can do."
Last month, Nick – who is married to Mariah Carey - spoke out about Amanda's bizarre behaviour, saying the star is like his "little sister".
"To see someone you'd seen at nine, running around with a snotty nose, and now to see her like that is like, 'Wow, man! That's sad,'" he explained in an interview with radio host Howard Stern.
Amanda has been involved in a string of peculiar incidents over the last few months. She has branded a host of stars "ugly" on her Twitter page, slammed news outlets for using old photographs of her, undergone extensive plastic surgery on her nose, and been arrested for throwing a bong out of an apartment window in New York City.
She was detained on Monday after starting a fire with gasoline, with eyewitnesses claiming she set her trousers on fire, doused her dog in the flammable liquid and then ran to a shop to clean the pooch.
Amanda’s parents, Rick and Lynn Bynes, are reportedly the driving force behind the call to keep the star in hospital for an extra two weeks so she can undergo further assessment.
They are expected to appear in court today to ask for a temporary conservatorship order, which would put them in charge of Amanda's personal and professional affairs.
