Nicole Kidman: I cried when Keith got voice back

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman says that she was emotional when she heard her husband Keith Urban speak again following his surgery.

The country rocker had an operation to repair his damaged vocal cords recently.

But the Australian actress told W Magazine that they shared a very special moment when they heard sound coming out of his mouth once more.

"Three weeks of no sound. No laughing, no coughing, no sneezing, nothing," Nicole told the publication.

"He would write things down, and he would scribble away. You can still fight when someone can't talk.

"When he disagreed with me, he would write, 'This is unacceptable.'"

But the Oscar winning star added that the medical drama made their relationship even stronger.

"All of those things make you closer," Nicole gushed. "It was sort of profound; to go without his voice, and then to finally hear his voice. How many people experience their husband's first words? If that doesn't bring you closer, you're not breathing."

Nicole also discussed her upcoming role in HBO's Hemingway & Gellhorn where she plays Hemingway's third wife Martha Gellhorn opposite Clive Owen.

"I've always been drawn to unique women who are willing to take on the world," Nicole shared.
