Oliver recruits celebrity teachers
Jamie Oliver has recruited a team of inspirational teachers for a new TV experiment to turn around the lives of teens who struggled with school.
Rolf Harris, Lord Winston, David Starkey, Alastair Campbell, Jazzie B, Simon Callow and Daley Thompson are taking on the role of teachers for the Channel 4 documentary series next year.
Jamie, 35, who has previously helped young people by training them in his Fifteen restaurant, said: "I've seen with many of the kids at Fifteen that if you can find something that sparks someone's passion, they'll absolutely embrace it.
"Not everyone's into cooking, of course, so what we're trying to do with Dream School is to provide loads of different academic subjects and some fantastic teachers so that there's something inspiring for all the young people, whether it's politics or history or sport or music. It's fascinating to watch the kids in different lessons and see what switches them on."
Jamie's Dream School aims to encourage 20 teenagers who have had difficulties at school to give education a second chance.
Other experts lending their weight to the project include rapper Tinchy Stryder, Cherie Blair, former poet laureate Andrew Motion, round-the-world sailor turned environmental campaigner Ellen Macarthur, photographer Rankin, and former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan.
