Olly Murs put off TV presenting after X Factor backlash
Olly Murs doesn't get invited to his friends' weddings as people fear he'll steal the attention.
Olly Murs has no plans to return to TV hosting after people wanted to “lynch” him after his stint on The X Factor.
The British singer tried his hand at helming the popular singing competition opposite Caroline Flack in 2015, however their efforts were met with a barrage of criticism from the public and the pair was eventually let go.
While cheeky chappy Olly still likes the idea of presenting, he admits the negative experience he had on The X Factor has put him off any future hosting duties.
“People were ready to lynch me. I wouldn’t want to make any more mistakes on national TV,” he told The Sun. “I don’t give a s**t about making mistakes, it’s what gets written about you.
“I love TV presenting but there comes a point where you go, ‘Is it worth the hassle of what people write about you afterwards?’”
It’s even deterred the popstar from considering hosting the BRIT Awards, with Olly noting he’d never throw his name into the hat now. Olly also pulled out of performing at the 2017 BRIT nominations launch party because his album 24 Hrs had been snubbed.
Away from work the Troublemaker singer admits it’s not all rock and roll with him, revealing he likes nothing more than to unwind with a pack of cards. His card habit comes in especially handy when he misses out on social occasions because of his fame.
“Sometimes I don’t even get invited to my mates’ weddings,” he sighed. “I understand it. I want to go to my mates’ wedding and sit in the background and enjoy it like everyone else, but people get annoyed.
“I can’t even go to a wedding and dance on the dance floor without someone thinking I’m trying to get attention. Whereas I’m just there to have a good time like everyone else. It does play on your mind.”
