One Direction prep for VMAs

One Direction

One Direction can't wait to enter "the history books" by performing at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

The British five-piece - comprising of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson - are in the running for three accolades at the ceremony on September 6. Their smash hit single What Makes You Beautiful could see them pick up prizes for Best New Artist, Best Pop Video and most Share-Worthy Video.

The group are also performing and Niall can't wait. "I'm really excited to add our name to the history books when we perform at this year's VMAs," he said.

The singer made the comment while discussing other artists appearing at the event for an MTV special. While it gave Liam some ideas about their performance, it also made him think about how far the band has come since they appeared on the UK version of The X Factor.

"Don't you think it's so weird to be put in the same category [Best Pop Video] as Rihanna?" he mused.

"I think it would be so much fun to walk through the fans. Just to see what would happen."
