One Direction stars tell followers they're best fans ever on band's anniversary
Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson thanked fans for "changing our lives" as One Direction celebrated their sixth anniversary.
Fans got #6YearsOfOneDirection trending on Twitter on Saturday in memory of the day that music mogul Simon Cowell put together the original five-piece during the bootcamp stage of The X Factor in 2010 after they all failed to secure spots as solo signers.
In a video message, Tomlinson showed his gratitude for their loyalty through the years, saying: "I just wanted to film a little message to say thank you because you guys are incredible.
"Your continued support is remarkable really and every single one of you had a hand in changing our lives and I hope you're as proud as we are."
Styles wrote to his 28.9 million Twitter followers, "Six years. I have no idea how to say thank you for all your support. For everything you are, and everything you've done, thank you."
Remaining members Niall Horan and Liam Payne are yet to share any messages.
Payne sent fans into panic when he confirmed on Thursday that he had signed a solo deal with Capitol Records, which many thought meant the band's current "hiatus" would become permanent.
He assuaged their fears with a tweet, reading: "One Direction will always be my home and family but I'm very excited to see what this chapter brings."
The original line-up also included Zayn Malik, who left the band in March 2015.
