Paltrow: Pitt was too good for me
Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about her ex-boyfriends, Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck.
The Iron Man actress dated the Fury actor from 1994 to 1997 and were even engaged at one point. The 42-year-old took time to reflect on her past loves during an appearance on Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show on Wednesday.
“I definitely fell in love with him. He was so gorgeous and sweet. I mean, he was Brad Pitt!” she exclaimed. “I was such a kid, I was 22 when we met. It's taken me until 40 to get my head out of my a*s. You can't make that decision when you're 22 years old... I wasn't ready, and he was too good for me. I didn't know what I was doing."
Following their break-up, Brad was married to Jennifer Aniston for five years before divorcing in 2005. He married second wife Angelina Jolie last year and together they have six children. But for Gwyneth, she can reflect fondly on her time with the hunk.
“If I see him, we're friendly, [but] I don't hang out with him,” she said before adding she still has photographs of them together. “I have a couple somewhere, I think every piece of your life is an important piece of your life!"
Gwyneth also discussed her on-off relationship with Ben Affleck, who she dated from 1997 to 2000. She admits that with hindsight, it was never going to work out between them.
“He was not in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend," she revealed. “I think that when you're in your twenties, you can get swept up in [good looks]. When you're a kid, you tend to be more shallow and you're also immature, so you think that being with a good looking person validates yourself in some kind of way. It's not true."
Gwyneth went on to marry Coldplay front man Chris Martin in 2003 and they had two children together before going through an infamous “conscious uncoupling” early last year.
