Paltrow talks sex addiction

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow is convinced sex addiction is real after playing the girlfriend of a sex addict in new movie Thanks for Sharing.

The Oscar-winning actress stars as the girlfriend of a recovering sex addict, played by Mark Ruffalo, in Stuart Blumberg comedy drama Thanks for Sharing.

She sat down with Entertainment Tonight to discuss the taboo topic.

“I think it’s very much a real condition, disease, that people have,” Gwyneth said, revealing she has second-hand knowledge of dealing with sex addiction.

“I’ve known a few and it’s very painful and a shameful thing for people. In some ways if you say you’re an alcoholic it’s more socially acceptable somehow but sex addiction is full of shame.”

Although Gwyneth, who is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, doesn’t suffer from the problem, she does have her own vices.

The star insists, however, she’s good about setting limits.

“I love a martini. Not every day though – not in the morning!” she mused.

Gwyneth said she had a wonderful time working on the production.

The actress was thrilled when the project got started and she hopes audiences will agree that the director tackled a difficult subject matter in a meaningful way.

“You know, I love movies like this where you get a sense of the complication in people,” she explained, “and I love the tone of really funny and really moving at the same time.”

Thanks for Sharing is scheduled for US release September 20.
