Pamela Anderson: 'Pornography is for losers'
Pamela Anderson has written an impassioned plea encouraging people to stop watching pornography, citing the explicit footage as a "dead-end outlet for people too lazy to reap the ample rewards of healthy sexuality."
Pamela Anderson has detailed the dangers of pornography in a lengthy and impassioned column.
The 49-year-old actress, who herself was an unwilling porn participant when a sex tape starring her and then-husband Tommy Lee was leaked in 1995, has teamed up with rabbi counsellor Shmuley Boteach to pen a column for the Wall Street Journal.
In the column, Boteach and former Playboy model Anderson encourage people to stop watching explicit material for fear of ruining their relationships.
"This is a public hazard of unprecedented seriousness given how freely available, anonymously accessible and easily disseminated pornography is nowadays," the column reads. "How many families will suffer? How many marriages will implode? How many talented men will scrap their most important relationships and careers for a brief onanistic thrill?"
They called pornography a ""dead-end outlet for people too lazy to reap the ample rewards of healthy sexuality" and labelled those who watch it "losers".
It was written as a response to former congressman Anthony Weiner's latest scandal, which saw the ex-politician 'sexting' a brunette while his son was in bed with him.
His wife Huma Abedin announced their separation shortly after the New York Post published the lewd picture, and Anderson and Boteach used the tale as an example of just how pornography can destroy a relationship.
"What is required is an honest dialogue about what we are witnessing - the true nature and danger of porn - and an honor code to tamp it down in the collective interests of our well-being as individuals, as families and as communities," the column continues. "And if anyone still doubted the devastation that porn addiction wreaks on those closest to the addict, behold the now-shattered marriage of Mr. Weiner and Huma Abedin, a breakup that she initiated, reportedly, in shock at the disgraced ex-congressman's inclusion of their four-year-old son in one lewd photo that he sent to a near-stranger."
