Robert Pattinson has opened up for the first time about the cheating scandal that ended his relationship with Kristen Stewart.
The Twilight stars dated for six years during most of the film franchises’ run, but it all came to a crashing halt in July 2012 when Kristen was photographed kissing her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders. Two years on, the 28-year-old English actor has finally revealed how he feels about the situation.
“Sh*t happens, you know? It’s just young people… it’s normal!” he told the American edition of Esquire with a laugh. “And honestly, who gives a sh*t?”
Robert and the 24-year-old never acknowledged their relationship at the time. It wasn’t until the photographs surfaced and Kristen issued an apology that their romance was confirmed.
“This momentary indiscretion has jeopardised the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry,” she said in a statement at the time.
The Rover actor has been linked to other famous women since then, including Katy Perry and Riley Keough. But throughout it all he has never said a bad word against his former flame, and he admits it was a conscious decision.
“The hardest part was talking about it afterwards. Because when you talk about other people, it affects them in ways you can’t predict,” he explained. “It’s like that scene in Doubt, where [Philip Seymour Hoffman is] talking about how to take back gossip? They throw all those feathers from a pillow into the sky and you’ve got to go and collect all the feathers.”
