One Direction singer Liam Payne has apologised to staff at the Empire State Building after an explosive Twitter row.
The 19-year-old English star visited the New York City landmark with his family this week after the band's raucous show at Madison Square Garden.
Angry about how they were treated he logged onto Twitter and accused staff of being disrespectful and arrogant.
"Just been to the Empire State Building had a great time except... The security detail, in particular the senior security supervisor, was arrogant, unprofessional and extremely disrespectful to my family @EmpireStateBldg #TheresAlwaysTimeForManners," he wrote.
The comment was noticed by employees at the Empire State Building.
A spokesperson operating the account responded to the star on the micro-blog, suggesting Liam was the one who was being arrogant.
"@Real_Liam_Payne bad behaviour not accepted at ESB. No, our security does not know who you are, and does not care."
Liam quickly backtracked. He issued an apology insisting there must have been "a mix up" (sic).
"I would like to formally apologise to the Empire State Building security team and its owners for our misunderstanding the other night," he wrote, adding, "I didn't mean to cause anyone any problems and hope that I can come back again for a visit again in the future :)".
One Direction is scheduled to return to the UK after their whirlwind US tour to perform at Capital FM's Jingle Bell Ball and the X Factor Final this weekend.
