Payne: Cowell needs to save
Liam Payne insists Simon Cowell isn't an "untouchable person".
The One Direction singer was surprised that Simon made it to their Las Vegas show in the summer, instead of spending his time gambling in the casinos.
The boys performed in Sin City in August as part of their Take Me Home world tour, which recently finished in Tokyo.
"He came to see our show in Vegas, which is good. You'd normally be gambling in Vegas. If I was him I would have done but I suppose he has to look after the pennies with a kid on the way. He's got to take care of that," laughed 20-year-old Liam to British newspaper Metro.
Simon's girlfriend Lauren Silverman is pregnant at the moment, with their son due to be born in February.
Liam describes the 54-year-old music mogul as a good laugh, and not the "untouchable person" he's sometimes portrayed as.
The families of the One Direction members also got to chat to Simon, who mentored the band when they appeared on the British X Factor in 2010.
"We did feel very privileged that he came to watch our show because obviously he doesn't watch shows that often.
"He stayed behind to tell us what he thought and spoke to our parents and stuff - so it's not like he's an untouchable person. He's a good laugh and he's funny," Liam explained.
The boys are currently busy promoting their new album Midnight Memories and book Where We Are.
On Saturday the band created 1D Day and treated fans to a seven-hour live video stream watched in 61 countries, which included songs from the boys.
Fans also got to ask their idols personal questions, with ladies man Harry Styles divulging that despite being linked to some of the most beautiful women in the world he's only ever kissed eight ladies.
