Penn dodges engagement questions
Sean Penn has joked that he and Charlize Theron had “hit a speed bump” in their friendship and ended up getting together.
The Milk actor has been dating the South African beauty since the early part of last year after being friends for a long time. Rumours began circulating that the lovebirds had got engaged in November, but the 54-year-old wouldn’t be pushed on the point during a chat with Extra.
“I can’t even say things out loud,” he said, “I just hate looking at people on television talking about their relationships.”
Sean may be keen to keep this relationship on the low down, after high profile marriages to Madonna and most recent ex-wife, Robin Wright.
So when interviewer Jerry Penacoli commented on how happy he looked, the Academy Award winner couldn’t help but make a joke.
“I can’t imagine why… she and I have been very, very longtime friends. We hit a speed bump and must have lost our minds, so here we are,” he smiled.
Sean spoke on the red carpet of his 4th annual Help Haiti Home Gala in Los Angeles over the weekend with the 39-year-old by his side. The star-studded event raised $6 million on the night and the star is pleased with the progress the charity and the country is making.
“We’re really moving into a good stage. The country still has great challenges economically, but the psychological recovery as well as the direct effect of the disaster recovery from the earthquake has really been extraordinary,” he said.
