Penn’s son hurls racial epithet

Sean Penn

Sean Penn's son is at the centre of controversy after he was caught on video calling a photographer a "n****r".

The actor’s 19-year-old son Hopper reportedly got into a verbal and physical altercation with an African-American celebrity photographer on Tuesday.

The teenager, who is Sean's son with his ex-wife, actress Robin Wright, was following his father into a medical building in Beverly Hills, California at the time.

TMZ reports Hopper was seen “violently ramming” the photographer and calling the man a “f****t”.

Video footage obtained by the website shows Hopper pushing the man then saying, “F**k you… you’re a f**king f****t… shut up you f**king n****r.”

Police were nearby at the time of the incident and arrived to the scene.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the photographer claimed the argument was strictly verbal.

The man has yet to be identified.

He is not believed to have pressed charges.

Hopper has meanwhile defended his actions, insisting he was be “accosted by paparazzi and made to feel like an animal threatened under attack”.

“That does not condone my own actions,” he continued, adding, “I deeply regret my choice of words.

Sean was reportedly calm during the incident.

The 52-year-old Gangster Squad star made headlines back in 2010 for kicking a photographer.

He was sentenced to three years probation, ordered to perform 300 hours of community service and complete 36 hours of anger management in wake of the incident.
