Perry 'humiliated by career'
Katy Perry says stars are often left "eating dust" by the pop industry.
The singer first hit the scene with her track I Kissed a Girl and is currently promoting her album Prism, which has spawned popular single Roar.
While she's often hitting the number one spot now, the 27-year-old had to put up with trials and tribulations along the way.
"You have to eat dust in the music industry. You'll get humiliated, often in very uncomfortable ways. That period of my life was like a test of my strength," she is quoted as saying to German magazine Joy.
It's not just her career that's been a struggle - Katy has also had to overcome moments of personal troubles.
The star married UK comedian Russell Brand in 2010, but he filed for divorce in December 2011.
"My philosophy is: you get presented with these challenges so you can learn to overcome them," she reasoned.
In her documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me, the star is shown crying over her crumbling marriage and she later claimed Russell, 38, dumped her via a text message.
She's now dating singer John Mayer and says relationships are a huge part of her life.
"When I was married I kept taking breaks in between touring so I could dedicate time to my marriage," she explained.
"It was extremely draining, but my marriage was worth it to me.
"I'm definitely open to love, including getting married a second time. I'll take everything life offers me. That's the only way I'll learn. And experiences are the best inspiration for my music."
