Katy Perry has celebrated her ex-husband Russell Brand's sobriety despite their abrupt split.
Russell filed for divorce from Katy after 14 months of marriage in December of 2011 and the pair's annulment was finalised this summer.
The British comedian struggled with drug addiction years ago, but has remained cleaned for a decade.
Russell took to Twitter to announce his achievement: "Ten years clean... Thanks for all your messages of love... Anyone can get clean, one day at a time."
Despite their shocking split, Katy is still supportive of Russell and decided to send him an email.
"Although they've broken up, Katy knows how important this milestone is for Russell," a source told British newspaper The Sun.
"She wanted to let him know that she was thinking of him and that she was still proud of what he has achieved.
"She also wanted to drop him the email to wish him a happy 2013 and to let him know that her heart was finally healing."
Katy is now in a relationship with musician John Mayer.
The couple attended a performance of Broadway show A Christmas Story: The Musical in New York City last week, happily walking the red carpet together.
