Peter Andre: 'Lifting weights with Junior was only for fun'
Peter Andre insists he would never let his young son lift heavy weights.
Peter Andre has urged people to “relax” after they lashed out at footage of his son lifting weights, insisting it was “just a bit of fun”.
The Mysterious Girl singer posted a clip on Instagram recently showing his 11-year-old son Junior, his son with ex-wife Katie Price, doing a bench press in what appeared to be Peter’s own personal gym while his sister Princess, nine, played about in the background.
Fans immediately called the star out on the video, slamming Peter for letting the youngster participate in such an activity and instilling an unhealthy body goal for his child when he should be outside playing.
But in his column for the latest issue of new! magazine, Peter was quick to clear things up, telling readers: "First of all, the weights Junior was lifting were featherweight, and I was there with him the whole time.
"Of course I wouldn’t let him lift anything heavy! And Bista (Princess) was just skipping and dancing to music.
"I was in the gym at 11, 12 years old too. One minute they’re running around in the garden, the next they’re running around the garden, the next day they’re taking over my gym... We like keeping fit together – it’s just a bit of fun. Relax, people!"
Luckily the 44-year-old could rely on his fans to back him up as many showed their support for the dad-of-four, who also has daughter Amelia, three, and baby boy Theodore James, who was born in November (16), with wife Emily MacDonagh. One Instagram user noted there's "nothing wrong" with teaching children about fitness, while another said their own son, who is around Junior's age, also has his own set of weights.
