Peter Kay: I don't like 'safe bets'

Peter Kay was surprised by the success of his latest tour

Peter Kay says he's not tempted to do another series of Phoenix Nights.

The comedy star found fame on TV shows That Peter Kay Thing, followed by Phoenix Nights and Max And Paddy's Road To Nowhere.

But he told TV Times: "I could probably make another series of Phoenix Nights or Max And Paddy, but that would just feel like a safe bet."

The 38-year-old added: "I don't do that much telly because I want quality, not quantity - you've got to be happy with what you're putting out."

The comedy star's latest live show, The Tour That Didn't Tour - Tour, became the fastest-selling stand-up event of all time and is being performed in front of a total 1.2 million people.

Peter said he was shocked about the record-breaking ticket sales, as the tour came after a break that he took spending time with his family, wife Susan, and sons, Charlie, seven and Finley James, four.

"I didn't expect it at all. I know it's hard to believe. But I genuinely wasn't sure. I'd been away for a long time and you can't take anything for granted," he told the magazine.
