Philip Seymour Hoffman 'seals Hunger Games deal'

Philip Seymour Hoffman

Philip Seymour Hoffman has reportedly signed on to star in The Hunger Games sequel.

The Oscar-winning actor has recently been linked to the role of Plutarch Heavensbee in the hotly-anticipated movie Catching Fire. There is now speculation that Philip accepted the part earlier this month.

"The deal was made right before the Fourth of July holiday," a source told E! News.

In Catching Fire, past Hunger Games champions are called upon to battle each other to the death in another challenging event - the Quarter Quell. Plutarch is the new Head Gamemaker of the brutal televised games.

An announcement about Philip's involvement in the follow-up to the blockbuster movie is expected to be made this week.

Last week, it was reported that Jena Malone had been offered the role of former Hunger Games champion Johanna Mason.

Catching Fire will be directed by Francis Lawrence and will star Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

The second instalment of the franchise is scheduled to begin shooting in the fall and has a release date of November 2013.
