Sally Phillips has admitted she'd never have signed up for a family sitcom - until she got the script for her new series Parents.
The actress plays a mum-of-two forced to move back in with own her parents after she loses her job in the Sky1 HD comedy, which also stars Tom Conti and former Corrie star Susie Blake.
She said of the show: "It's slightly cartoony and absurd - if you'd said Sally, would you like to do a mainstream family sitcom, my answer would have been no, but this felt new enough and edgy enough within the constraints of being pre-watershed to be interesting."
The Bridget Jones' Diary star was also full of praise for her on-screen dad Tom.
"I absolutely love Tom Conti. He's so good and he just finds it so easy. He's the Colin Firth for my mother's generation, and probably for mine too!
"He's just great. He's really kind and really helpful. He'd give me a quick wink (on set) and go, 'More insane'."
Parents is set to air next month.
