Phillips to 'pull apart' dancers

Arlene Phillips is a judge on the next series of So You Think You Can Dance

Arlene Phillips can't wait to get her teeth into the next series of So You Think You Can Dance.

The TV judge, who attended the premiere on Tuesday night of Andrew Lloyd Webber's latest stage spectacular The Wizard Of Oz, returns this month to the judging panel of the BBC One show, hosted by Cat Deeley.

Speaking at the Oz premiere, at London's Palladium theatre, she exclaimed: "How excited am I!...I can't wait to get there in my chair praising and pulling apart many of the contestants."

Arlene, who judges the second series of the show with the likes of Nigel Lythgoe and Louise Redknapp, said of the new contestants: "Not all of them are the most phenomenal dancers on earth but what they have is something very special and very often something quite unique."

She said the show, won in the first series by Charlie Bruce, will be "different to last year", adding: "It's not a question of being better than Charlie, it's about being brilliant, being different and becoming Britain's favourite dancer. "

Asked how the contestant would emerge as Britain's favourite dancer, the former Strictly judge said: "By just doing it for me. Then I will say to the public, this is your boy or girl!"
