The Jamaica Bay yacht is moored in Belfast. Rumours are circulating that it belongs to Beyonce.

A gleaming multi-million pound yacht moored beside Belfast's SSE Arena has sent the city's celebrity rumour mill into overdrive.

Staff at the concert venue said they'd been told the vessel is owned by a rich couple from New York - and one of them is global singing superstar Beyonce.

Mystery surrounded the identity of the VIPs on board the glamorous Jamaica Bay, a yacht that looks more suited to the Cote d'Azur than the banks of the Lagan.

Rumours were rife that Beyonce and her rapper husband Jay-Z were behind the smoked glass windows of the 1,100-tonne vessel.

The Crazy In Love singer is currently on tour in the UK and Ireland, and the yacht has been spotted in ports close to her tour venues.

Earlier this week the Jamaica Bay was seen in Liverpool, the nearest major port to Manchester, where Beyonce was performing as part of her Formation tour.

The Single Ladies singer is preparing to play a gig at Dublin's Croke Park tomorrow as part of the her exhausting world tour.

Coupled with the Jamaica Bay showing up in Belfast, rumours ran wild that the Texan star was in Northern Ireland as she prepared for her show at GAA headquarters.

Fan Ronnie Smith tweeted a photo of the luxury vessel tied up at the quayside.

And he posed the question: "Is this Beyonce's boat docked up at SSE?

"Quick pit stop before her big Croke Park gig on Saturday?"

Another Queen B fan, Alison Elliot, wrote: "Rumour has it this might be Beyonce's dinghy parked at the Odyssey?"

Security staff at the SSE Arena said the yacht sailed into the city centre berth early yesterday morning.

The Jamaica Bay is registered in the Pacific atoll of Bikini, flies the flag of the Marshall Islands and is just under 200ft long.

The luxury vessel can host up to 12 guests and has accommodation for up to 17 crew.

Mega- yachts similar to the Jamaica Bay can cost up to $310,000 per week to charter. Last night, as the sunburned crew swabbed the decks of the seven-year-old German-built ship, a smiling sailor denied that the yacht had anything to do with Beyonce and Jay-Z.

"People have been coming up to us all day asking us about Beyonce," he told the Belfast Telegraph.

He wouldn't give his name, but did offer a vague story about it being owned by "a group of businessmen who were touring the UK looking at heritage sites".

Well, he would say that, wouldn't he?
