Karl Pilkington has spoken up about rumours he's the comic creation of Ricky Gervais.
The star of Gervais and Stephen Merchant's podcasts said he's unfussed about what people might say about him.
He said: "It doesn't really bother me. I know I'm not a div, and it could be worse. I look at Ricky and his other mates and I come out of it best. He buried his mate Robin Ince in the sand and waited for the tide to come in. Besides, I'm 38. I don't go home and cry. We've been mates for 10 years, and anyway, I wind him up by not doing the stuff he wants me to."
Despite providing him with the means to leave his old flat (its boiler problems were a recurring theme on the podcasts), fame and fortune does not interest Pilkington. Indeed, he is far from happy that his TV profile means people think he's loaded.
"That's the worst thing about being on the telly - it's hard to get a bargain. I'll be going to buy some new flooring and ask them about a better price if I do some of the work myself, and they'll look at me like I'm tight."
:: The Ricky Gervais Show begins on Channel 4 on Thursday, March 10.
