Pinkett Smith: Prayers are with shooting victims

Jada Pinkett Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith offered her prayers for the families of victims who perished in Monday morning’s Washington, D.C. shooting.

Authorities say 13 people died and several wounded when gunfire rang out at the Washington Navy Yard at approximately 8.20am, according to USA Today.

One of two possible shooters has been identified as 34-year-old civilian contractor Aaron Alexis, who was among those killed, Mayor Vincent Gray said at a news conference on Monday.

Jada took to Facebook after the incident to express her sympathy for the loved ones of those who perished.

“My condolences to the families and friends of those who lost loved ones this morning in the Washington D.C. tragedy. Our prayers are with you all J,” she wrote.

Russell Simmons has also been making sure his 2.9 million followers stay informed about the incident, tweeting updates from his editors at news website Global Grind.

The Washington Post reports the FBI is leading the investigation as the search continues for a second possible shooter who could have opened fire at the facility, where approximately 3,000 people, many civilians, were at work.

The city’s Mayor Gray said investigators have not determined a motive.

US President Barack Obama spoke about the incident, vowing that "whoever carried out this cowardly act is held responsible”.
