Preeya Kalidas takes on hosting role at BBC Asian Network

Former EastEnders actress Preeya Kalidas is switching the stage for the small screen again.

Kalidas, who is currently starring in the West End production of Bend It Like Beckham, will join BBC's Asian Network in November as a presenter.

Known for her role as Amira Masood in EastEnders, she will join a host of new presenting faces that include Guz Khan (also known as Guzzy Bear), Harpz Kaur and Mim Shaikh.

Kalidas said: "I'm looking forward to spending my Saturday afternoons talking to the nation on the brilliant BBC Asian Network.

"I had my first ever interview on the station and have grown up listening to great talent on the station. It's an honour to be a part of the team. My dad always said I had a perfect face for radio!"

Khan recently gave up his job as a teacher to pursue a full-time career as a stand-up comic.

"I am just a normal dude, so the fact these opportunities have arisen in such a short space of time is still surreal," he said.
