Prince's 'club takeover'
Prince reportedly held a late night jam session in New York City at the weekend.
The Purple Rain hitmaker performed on US comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live and followed up the gig with a jam session at midtown Manhattan lounge Butter, according to the New York Post.
The outlet reports the singer invited about 25 people to the after-party, including his band 3rdEyeGirl and a group of dancers.
A source told the newspaper Prince and DJ Kiss kept the crowd going with hits from the 70s and 80s, while he also played a few tracks from his new album.
“The room got up to dance around 3:30am Prince deejayed with Kiss, then he got on the dance floor. At 6am he was still dancing,” the insider said.
The American singer is known for being secretive and surprising fans at shows.
Earlier this year, he reportedly "got really upset" when he thought Glastonbury organisers had leaked news he was playing the UK music festival.
"We wanted him to play, and it got to the point where his people were talking to us about him doing it, but before he confirmed he got really upset because he thought we had advertised that he was playing,” Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis told British newspaper The Guardian back in June.
“We hadn’t,” he clarified, “but with social media, rumours get everywhere, and one of those rumours was that Prince was coming. So he didn't want to do it in the end.”
