Bill Pullman has revealed he knew nothing about Torchwood when he signed up for the BBC drama.

The Independence Day star plays serial killer Oswald Danes in the fourth series, Torchwood: Miracle Day, but admitted he hadn't a clue about how huge the sci-fi series was.

"I can't say I knew anything about it, because I am terrible at watching television. I don't watch any television. I don't know how I've managed to get by as an actor without it," he said.

"But after I got the offer and read the scripts, I said yes immediately - and then I watched it and was pleased to see how good it is."

Calling it a "great big Titanic of a ship floating down the Atlantic", Bill considers his role in the sci-fi series, now co-produced by US network Starz, an honour.

"It's a big privilege to be part of Torchwood. I'm excited to see how America does with it," he continued.

"To see the lineage from Doctor Who, it's been like the little engine that could, having started off on BBC Three, then to Two and now One. I have a feeling that Starz is a stepping stone to something bigger after that. It's great to be a part of it."

:: Torchwood: Miracle Day begins on BBC One on July 14.

Your Horoscopes by Russell Grant

Capricorn:

Your dry humour will be very popular. It's always difficult bringing a large group of people together. Everybody feels like they are walking on eggshells. After cracking a few jokes, you'll put the group at ease. Resist the temptation to make fun of relatives, especially the more sensitive members of the group. Nobody likes feeling singled out. Watching a light hearted comedy can also be a great way to generate a festive atmosphere. This is a time when people can put their differences aside.More
