Python stage show to air live on TV

Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam and John Cleese will perform their last ever show together on July 20

Monty Python's final tour - the last ever performance from the comedy troupe - is to be screened live on TV.

The last night of the Python's 10-date farewell show - Monty Python Live (mostly): One Down Five To Go - at London's O2 Arena will be streamed "for up to three hours" on UKTV Gold on Sunday July 20.

Eric Idle apparently confirmed it will be their last ever performance, saying: "What could be finer at the end of a long life in comedy, than a chance to reunite with old pals and say goodbye to all our fans in one final mad musical show.

"We are very excited that not only do we get the chance to screw up on stage, we get a chance to screw up live on TV too."

The July 20 show at London's O2 will also be broadcast live in thousands of cinemas around the world.

Eric told The Sun: "We're going to make the last night of the tour our last night ever. That's a very classy thing to do.

"The Beatles never had a 'last night'. They didn't know it was their last time together. So we've got a nice opportunity to make it the last time and I think that's rather elegant."

The Pythons - Eric, John Cleese, Michael Palin Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones - announced their comeback in November 2013 and promised the return of some of their most famous routines, including a likely performance of the dead parrot sketch.

Monty Python's Flying Circus was made for TV between 1969 and 1974 and generations of fans can recite lines and whole sketches.

Sixth Python Graham Chapman died of cancer in 1989 aged just 48, and nine years later the five remaining members shared a stage at the Aspen Comedy Festival in the US.

Monty Python Live (Mostly) sees the five stars reunited on stage for the first time in the UK in over 40 years at the London O2 Arena for 10 memorable nights from 1-5, 15, 17-20 July 2014. After selling out the initial run in just 43 seconds, the seating capacity of the shows has been increased, meaning more tickets are now available from www.montypythonlive.com.
