Ramsay mentors chefs on new TV show

British-born chef Gordon Ramsay's softer side comes out when he mentors younger cooks on a new reality TV show.

Gordon said on Thursday at the Television Critics Association meeting that children between eight and 13 will compete on MasterChef Junior, starting on September 27.

The chef is the star of such Fox shows as Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen.

He is known for his cursing but a 10-year-old contestant says Gordon only curses twice in the show, and both times it is directed at servers, not children.

Gordon, a father of three daughters and a son, says he was brutally honest, telling the young contestants when their food was not good enough and sending them home in pairs during eliminations.
