Randy Jackson: I gave Cowell baby tips
Randy Jackson thinks Simon Cowell will make a "surprisingly good" dad.
The 57-year-old bassist appeared as a judge on the music mogul's talent show American Idol from the first season in 2002, before leaving the position last year.
Simon and his girlfriend Lauren Silverman welcomed their baby boy Eric into the world in February and the star was quick to help his friend with tips on fatherhood.
"I think it's really going to help him grow," Randy said to British magazine Star.
"I told him to let it happen, let it wash over him. Surprisingly - and even I'm saying surprisingly - he's going to be a good dad!"
Recently it was announced that the US version of The X Factor has been cancelled and that Simon will be returning to the British edition.
Randy is in no doubt that this isn't the last America has seen of the 54-year-old businessman.
"Simon is such an amazing, talented guy that I'm sure he's plotting his US return! He's a real creator, so never count him out."
Randy hasn't completely abandoned American Idol and is now helping contestants behind the scenes as a mentor.
He revealed why he decided to leave the judging panel.
"Twelve seasons in as a judge - I did everything I could say and do," he admitted.
"It was time to do something else. I'm excited to step into a mentor role, as I get to work more hands-on with the kids."
