Ray Quinn has been crowned the last-ever champion of ITV's Dancing On Ice.

The former X Factor contestant went head-to-head with Coronation Street actress Hayley Tamaddon for the "Champion of Champions" title in the final episode of the skating talent show.

Ray, 25, and his partner Maria Filippov were the early bookmakers' favourites to win the competition and received the most votes from viewers after receiving a maximum of 40 points for both their routines on the night.

Rival finalist and Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle was eliminated after the first round of dances.

After being crowned the winner this evening, Ray said: "I'm absolutely privileged, but this moment is for Maria. I'm proper buzzing, I'm over the moon. Drinks are on me."

Christopher Dean described Ray's performances as "incredible", adding: "He's a worthy winner and the best skater we've had."

Dancing On Ice bows out after nine series as one of ITV's prime-time reality shows.

An emotional final show opened with Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean dancing their last televised performance of the famous Bolero routine.

Presenters Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley also took to the ice and were joined by the show's judges, Robin Cousins, Ashley Roberts, Jason Gardiner and Karen Barber, who performed a short routine.

Former co-presenter Holly Willoughby also returned for the farewell show.

Liverpool-born Ray rose to fame after losing out to X Factor winner Leona Lewis in 2006. The singer claimed that he had lost two stone in weight during the show's gruelling training schedule. He took home his first Dancing On Ice title in 2009.

Judge Jason said Ray was a "master" and told him: "I sit here in absolute awe of what you can do."

Runner-up Hayley, who was dancing with her partner and childhood friend Daniel Whiston, said: "Ray is an absolute star. He is amazing at everything and he really deserves it."
