Redmayne’s excitable Oscars call
Eddie Redmayne the adorable story of how his wife took the news of his Best Actor Oscar nomination.
The British star is up for Best Actor for his role as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. And after receiving the news on Thursday morning he couldn’t wait to speak to his wife Hannah on the phone.
“I don't know if any words were actually said. There was just a lot of sort of screaming across the phone," he told People Magazine on the red carpet at the 20th Annual Critics' Choice Awards on Thursday night.
The 33-year-old missed out on a gong at the ceremony but could console himself with his Oscar nomination and his win at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, which Hannah joined him at. However she had to fly back to England to resume her own job so had to make do with congratulating her husband over the telephone.
“She was so happy," he grinned. "She does a proper job, and she was at home. And she was like, 'How am I to go back and do the accounts when I'm so excited?!' "
Eddie has a number of red carpets still to attend, including the Screen Actors Guild Awards as well as the Oscars. But once the awards season is over and he wraps on his next movie, he is looking forward to a long overdue break.
“Vacation, vacation, vacation," he said. "It's a wondrous circus, but I think after I finish the next film, maybe a beach with some transparent water. I've never been on one of those holidays. I'd need to take a lot of sun cream, though."
