Richard Madeley hosts This Morning
Richard Madeley has turned back the clock to host ITV1's This Morning, nine years after quitting - when presenter Eamonn Holmes was late for work.
Richard had been due to appear as a guest - along with wife Judy Finnigan - on the show which they hosted for 13 years.
But Eamonn struggled to make it in to the studio at London's South Bank due to traffic, so the former host filled in.
His stand-in role also made the appearance something of a celebrity wife-swap. Richard hosted the start of the show alongside Eamonn's wife Ruth, and then, when the late-running regular finally arrived, he took his place on the sofa alongside Judy.
Ruth told viewers at the beginning of Thursday's programme: "Don't adjust your sets."
And Richard joked that he had pushed Holmes in the Thames.
Eamonn had become stuck in traffic in west London, following his regular morning appearance as the presenter of Sky News's Sunrise programme. Richard and Judy were appearing as guests on the show to promote their revived Book Club after teaming up with retailer WH Smith.
Richard said it felt like going back in time. Asked by Ruth whether it felt weird to be hosting once more, he said: "Totally mad. Getting out of the lift here, seeing all the old familiar faces, and Judy and I were saying it's like stepping out of the Tardis - but it's not 2001."
When Eamonn arrived, he told his temporary replacement: "I thought you'd retired."
Richard joked: "Excuse me - just go away! It's my show!"
