Rihanna has debuted her new single Diamonds.

The Barbadian singer recently told her fans the song would be premiering on Wednesday. Following its first public play and subsequent posting on her website, Rihanna thanked her Twitter followers for their support.

"'#ThankYouRihanna' no thank YOU!! This song is for everybody! Don't let nobody take your shine! #Diamonds [sic]," Rihanna tweeted today.

The catchy tune features uplifting lyrics including "shine bright like a diamond" and is the first track released from her upcoming seventh studio album.

"You're a shooting star I see, a vision of ecstasy/When you hold me I'm alive, we're like diamonds in the sky," Rihanna sings on the track. "So shine bright, tonight you and I/ We're like beautiful diamonds in the sky/ Eye to eye, so alive/ We're like beautiful diamonds in the sky."

Included are the phrases "heartbreak" and "love without a tragedy", hinting that the single could have been inspired by her personal life.

The release comes before Rihanna's tour starts next year.

She embarks on Live Nation's Rihanna Diamonds World Tour 2013 on March 8 and is currently scheduled to wrap up in Brooklyn, New York, on May 4.
