Rita Ora swaps The X Factor for Boy Band

The series will pit male singers against each other as they vie for a spot in a music group contracted to Hollywood Records.

Former The X Factor judge Rita Ora is joining Spice Girls star Emma Bunton and Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys for a new reality competition show.

The pop stars will host singing contest Boy Band, which will debut in the U.S. next month (Jun17).

The series will pit male singers against each other as they vie for a spot in a music group contracted to Hollywood Records.

Viewers will be asked to call in and vote for their favourite contestants and the top five will be chosen to form the band.

The judges will be called "architects" and will serve as coaches for the performers once the best singers have been picked.

After the news was announced on Tuesday, Emma took to her Twitter to express her excitement, writing: "It's official boybandabc is happening, can't wait to find some sizzling, spicy talent. #boys."

Rita is no stranger to the concept of TV talent shows, having previously served as a judge on BBC's The Voice and ITV's The X Factor.

It remains to be seen how she will cope with managing male singers on Boy Band though, as she mentored the girls category on The X Factor and gushed about how she works so well with other women.

"I think we've all got the right categories. I'm such a girls' girl, I've got so many records that refer to like, woman power and sticking together, so for me, that's what we're going to do with our category - it's going to be a force to be reckoned with, seriously," she told BBC Radio 1 in a 2015 interview.

Boy Band will also mark Rita's return to U.S. TV after she hosted the last season of America's Next Top Model. Original host Tyra Banks, who fronted the popular programme for 22 seasons before Rita took over, is returning for the 24th season of the show.
