Robin Williams suffered from Parkinson’s
Robin Williams was suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, his wife has revealed.
The 63-year-old actor’s body was discovered on Monday morning after an apparent suicide, and his devoted wife Susan Schneider has released a new statement explaining her late husband’s recent struggles.
“Since his passing, all of us who loved Robin have found some solace in the tremendous outpouring of affection and admiration for him from the millions of people whose lives he touched,” Susan said in the statement released to Deadline. “His greatest legacy, besides his three children, is the joy and happiness he offered to others, particularly to those fighting personal battles. Robin’s sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson’s Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly.”
Susan added that she and her family are hoping Robin’s death will send a message to those suffering from similar problems.
She also insisted she wants people to remember Robin as the lovable comedian he was.
“Robin spent so much of his life helping others. Whether he was entertaining millions on stage, film or television, our troops on the frontlines, or comforting a sick child — Robin wanted us to laugh and to feel less afraid,” she said.
“It is our hope in the wake of Robin’s tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid.”
Susan’s statement comes as the final photographs of Robin before his death have emerged.
The actor was seen at artist Mark Jaeger’s reception at a gallery near his home in the San Francisco Bay area Saturday night.
The images, obtained by TMZ, show the late 63-year-old looking happy as he attended the event with Susan at around 5:45 p.m.
And Mark, who is also a ceramics teacher at Marin Catholic High School as well as an artist, told the website that Robin had been at the event for around an hour and did not drink while he was there.
E! News reports Robin’s family members are planning a “very private” funeral for the late star in the San Francisco area.
Relatives are reportedly travelling to the Bay area ahead of the funeral, although the exact date has yet to be revealed.
Fans of the late actor will reportedly be able to pay their respects at a comedy benefit night planned to take place at the Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley, California.
