Rooney Mara is a natural mum

Rooney Mara has spent her life caring for others.

The 28-year-old actress plays a young mother in her new film Ain’t Them Bodies Saints.

She felt really comfortable with the role as she’s been caring for the people around her ever since she can remember.

“My family is so gigantic. I’ve grown up around so many babies and small children. That’s what I did growing up,” she told Collider.

“I was a camp counsellor. I was a nanny or a babysitter my entire life, so I’ve always been around kids, and I’ve always had a very maternal quality to myself. That part came easily and was natural to me. It might surprise people but I’m very maternal.”

Rooney appreciates her family deeply and is very close with her sister Kate Mara.

Although the siblings are both actresses, Rooney claims they never professionally compete with each other.

“She’s my sister. Of course, we talk about everything. We have the same job, so we have a lot of things that we can celebrate together or commiserate about with each other,” Rooney explained.

“We can relate with each other on a lot of different levels because we’re sisters and we also happen to work in the same industry.”

The star spoke previously about her struggle to get close to people outside of her nearest and dearest and considers herself to be a bit of a loner.

“I’m very shy and aloof and quiet,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m very slow to warm. I’m much more of a wallflower. I like to observe people much more than I like to be observed.”

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, which also stars Casey Affleck and Ben Foster, will be released this month.
