Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll send out invitations ahead of Wild Atlantic Way wedding
Rory McIlroy and fiancée Erica Stoll have posted invitations ahead of their wedding next spring, according to reports.
The golfer and his New York love sent out their invitations this week, to arrive ahead of Christmas according to the Irish Daily Mail.
The couple is expected to wed after the golfer wraps up the US Masters which finishes up on April 9.
American Erica, who hails from Rochester in New York, is expected to marry McIlroy in Mayo’s Ashford Castle but the pair have not revealed anything more about their big day.
McIlroy and Stoll will spend New Year’s Eve at the luxury hotel to get a feel for it ahead of their spring wedding.
Speaking about the wedding earlier this year, McIlroy said they hope to keep the celebration as private as possible, despite some of the world’s most elite athletes presumed to be on the guest list.
"We want to keep it to ourselves as much as we possibly can," he said.
"Erica loves Ireland. It’s very similar to the place where she grew up, in Rochester, upstate New York, where it’s also very green and leafy."
The wedding comes two years after McIlroy (27) called off his engagement to tennis star Caroline Wozniacki in 2014, days after they sent out their invitations.
The golfer said he is a different person since meeting Erica (29) and said their relationship is one of balance.
"It’s a bit like yin and yang, in terms of what I do on the course and how, when I get home, I’m able to detach myself and just be a normal person," he added.
"It’s great to have that balance, and Erica has given me that. She has made me realise that this is what I want, what I need."
McIlroy recently celebrated an early "stag" night with friends in Dublin, including a private tour on Dublin Bay Cruises and a night out in Xico on Baggot Street.
