Rosamund Pike missed her son so much recently that she began following a woman with a newborn around a store.

The British actress and her businessman partner Robie Uniacke welcomed their son Solo into the world earlier this year. Rosamund is still getting used to leaving the tot at home when she goes to work and is concerned she caused another new mother undue anxiety recently.

"I was in the wine shop in the Eurostar terminal in Paris and there was this woman with a tiny baby. I was missing my son so much I just wanted to get close to this child. It was such a weird feeling," she recalled to the latest edition of UK Vogue. "Then of course you're really close, and suddenly this woman is making protective gestures with her coat so I had to quickly grab a tin of foie gras and pretend I was shopping.

"Normally I'd explain that I was simply missing my son, but this woman looked French. Not only would I have been mad, but a mad Englishwoman babbling on in the wrong language."

Rosamund says having a child before marriage has made her feel "free". She has had a famously tumultuous love life, with her fiancé Joe Wright ending their relationship shortly before they were due to marry.

At the time she was devastated, but the 33-year-old now has a different outlook on her past.

"I do think my life is resolutely better for all these experiences. Which I can only laugh at me saying, because at the time that's the thing that people tell you and you can't see how it could be true," she smiled.

The actress stars alongside Tom Cruise in her latest movie Jack Reacher, which follows the investigation into a seemingly random sniper attack.

Rosamund was thrilled to team up with the Hollywood icon who she says is one of the easiest people she's ever worked with.

"Being in a room with someone as famous as Tom Cruise, and they're doing their thing they're recognisable for, it's rather extraordinary," she marvelled. "It's as if he's just stepped down off a poster in your teenage bedroom and into the room."

Beware of spending beyond your means. Sticking to a budget will help you survive the festive season relatively unscathed. It will be easier than you think to let your grip on the purse strings slip especially as the big day draws near. Let Christmas be about loving, sharing and giving. Spend quality time preparing food, making decorations and playing games together. If you haven't sent all your cards or round robin emails give some thought about what you will be sharing with others this year.More
