Rose Byrne knows Heath Ledger documentary will be 'heartbreaking'
The two Aussies were close before they each found fame.
Actress Rose Byrne is "looking forward" to checking out new documentary I Am Heath Ledger to reminisce about her tragic pal, despite acknowledging how "heartbreaking" it will be.
Rose was close pals with fellow Australian Heath Ledger, and she has so many fond memories of the times they spent together, she is eager to relive it all through the new project, which features a lot of home video footage Heath shot himself prior to the 28-year-old's death in 2008.
"He was a goof," the X‑Men: Apocalypse beauty tells People Now. "He was such a goofy, funny, you know, adorable guy. He was incredibly generous. He had a huge heart. He was kind of, actually, really shy."
She continues, "I mean, we met each other when we were 18. We were kids. (He had a) kinetic energy. He was non-stop. I adored spending time with him."
Rose explains their close bond represented "a really seminal part of my life, personally", and she cannot wait to see his smile again onscreen when she gets the chance to watch I Am Heath Ledger, which premiered at New York's Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday (23Apr17).
"I know his sister Kate is in it, who's fantastic," she smiles, before admitting, "I'm sure it will be very heartbreaking, but it looks beautiful. I'm really looking forward to seeing it."
I Am Heath Ledger also chronicles The Dark Knight star's final days before his death from an accidental prescription drug overdose. It will receive a special one-night-only theatrical release on 3 May (17), before debuting on America's Spike TV network on 17 May (17).
