Ruth Jones was fine without James

Ruth Jones has admitted that she didn't miss James Corden when it came to writing her new comedy TV drama.

The actress, who co-created and starred as Nessa in Gavin And Stacey with James, has written the new 10-part series Stella.

Asked whether she'd missed James, she said: "If it was Gavin And Stacey, I would, but he's not part of the Stella world.

"It's the same for him, as he writes with Mathew Baynton (Gavin And Stacey's Deano). He's doing a new series and I wouldn't be part of that."

Ruth developed the concept for Stella - which she also stars in - with her husband David, who she runs Tidy Productions with.

She said of working with her other half: "The cons (are) you tend not to switch off, so there have been three people in our marriage, Ruth, David and Stella, for the last two years.

"But the good thing is that it's given us more of an opportunity to work and to get Stella as good as we hope it can be."

Ruth said that she's not been great at coping with the fame that came her way since Gavin And Stacey made her a household name.

"It's weird, I'm not that good at being recognised and that seems to be getting worse rather than better," she said. "James is brilliant at it. He's got so much more grace than I have. I just find myself going really, really quiet, like an awkward teenager."

:: Stella is on Friday nights on Sky1.
