Zoe Saldana says becoming a mother has made her realise she is finally comfortable with her lover.

The 36-year-old actress welcomed twin boys Cy and Bowie with spouse Marco Perego in November 2014.

And in a new interview, the Avatar actress has revealed that becoming a mother gave her a whole new perspective on her relationship.

“Finally, when we had our boys, I looked at my husband and I realised: I was meant for you, and you were meant for me,” Zoe told InStyle magazine. “I’ve always felt comfortable around men as long as they were my friends. Now I finally feel comfortable with my lover.”

Zoe started dating Italian artist Marco in March 2013. The pair married the following June and officially confirmed her pregnancy in August 2014.

The actress also revealed that Marco took her surname when they became man and wife – an idea she tried to convince him out of.

“I told him, ‘If you use my name, you’re going to be emasculated by your community of artists, by your Latin community of men, by the world’,” she recalled. “But Marco looks up at me and says, ‘Ah, Zoe, I don’t give a sh*t.’”

Following the birth of her boys, Zoe has already managed to snap back into shape. However, the actress insists she is proud of the changes motherhood has made to her figure, and won’t aim to regain her pre-pregnancy shape entirely.

“I don’t want to get back to where I used to be,” she said. “I want to feel healthy, and not just fit into the old jeans I used to wear. I’m a woman now. My body has changed forever. It’s softer… and stronger.”
