Sam and Mark both become fathers

TV hosts and firm friends Sam and Mark have proved they are truly in sync after becoming first-time fathers just days apart.

Showing off their new tots for the first time, the pals, who paired up after meeting on ITV's Pop Idol talent contest, became fathers within nine days of each other.

In an interview and photoshoot for the new edition of Hello! magazine, Mark Rhodes said: "They will definitely be close and grow up together."

Mark and his wife Harriet have a daughter called Scarlett, while his CBBC presenter colleague Sam Nixon and his wife Anne have a girl called Meridon.

"Someone pointed out to us that the babies' initials are also S and M, which is another coincidence," said Mark.

"I can't believe our babies were born nine days apart. I'll be Uncle Mark to Meridon and Sam will be uncle to Scarlett," he added.

The duo, who host Sam And Mark's Big Friday Wind-Up, have been friends for 11 years and enjoyed a chart career before finding TV fame.

Sam - who also married in the same year as his colleague - said: "I have a feeling that Mark will be softer than I am.

"We always joke that I am dead inside. But becoming a dad has definitely brought out the softer side in me."
