Sam Claflin: Women made me worry

Sam Claflin used to ham up his gentlemanly behavior in the hope it would impress girls.

The 28-year-old actor has become a bit of a heartthrob since appearing as hunky Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games franchise. And while he's bagged himself gorgeous actress wife Laura Haddock now, the path of love hasn't always been smooth for the star.

"Because I had three brothers, but no sister, I was really nervous around girls as a young boy," he cringed to German magazine Joy. "My coping mechanism: trying to impress them. I would always hold open the door for any girl I met."

Lucky Lily Collins stars alongside the handsome actor in rom-com Love, Rosie, in which he plays her love interest. And Sam is also busy promoting The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, which is due out later this month.

For the part of Finnick, he had to get in serious shape.

"Before I started filming, I had love handles," he admitted. "Without make-up artists and training, I'd look completely different. It's nice to have a ripped body now; that's why I'll keep the training up.

"But only Laura is allowed to touch it. And she loves it!"

It might seem like Sam can do no wrong. But the British star admits he's clumsy, has two left feet and is constantly tripping over things on set.

"I have phases where I get really hectic and chaotic!" he laughed.
