Samia Ghadie hints at exit for 'well-loved' Coronation Street character
Coronation Street actress Samia Ghadie has revealed that a beloved member of the cast is set to die in heartbreaking scenes.
The actress, who has played Maria Connor since 2000, did not say which cobbles character would be losing their life, but admitted to being in tears as they filmed the exit.
She wrote in her blog for OK! magazine: "It's been great fun filming, but this week I've been recording some of the saddest scenes I've ever done in my 17 years at Corrie.
"When I first read the scripts I was in tears so getting to film them has just sent me off.
"You may need your tissues when they air. And we say a sad goodbye to a well loved member of the cast."
It had already been reported that the soap is set to be rocked by a "huge explosion" later in the year which will leaves lives hanging in the balance, as new Corrie boss Kate Oates makes her mark with a big-budget stunt.
A source told The Sun: "This is going to be up there with some of the best scenes in Corrie history.
"Characters are going to be crawling through flames to escape, and there's talk of killing at least one character."
