Sandra: Baby comes first

Sandra Bullock won’t take a film role unless the entire set is baby proofed for her toddler.

The 49-year-old says motherhood comes first, and she can’t focus if there is even a chance of something hurting her three-year-old son. So when she was offered the role in Gravity she agreed – on the condition they take care of Louis.

"I can't selfishly take journeys anymore because I have to take a little boy along with me," Sandra explained at a Los Angeles press junket.

"I said... make it so I'm not somewhere not paying attention because I'm so worried about, 'Where is he? Is he having fun? Is this a good life experience?'”

Sandra told producers if they wanted her, they had to make it “an amazing experience” for her toddler.

Luckily for the actress, the entire cast and crew went out of their way to make sure the adorable little boy was well taken care of.

"[Producer] David [Heyman] turned a back lot of a sound stage in rainy London into a wonderland for a one-and-a-half-year-old," Sandra revealed. "Everything was bumper guarded! People go, 'What is that?' And I go, 'That is to protect a child's head! All of it!'"

In Gravity, Sandra’s character loses a child. This made having Louis close to her every day even more important.

"I kept having to say, 'What would I do [if I lost a child]?' and I realised I might be far worse off than she is," said the actress. "You just have to go there and know at the end of the day, you can unplug and go home and do something a lot of... people who were parents can't."
