Sara Cox: I didn't make boot camp

Sara Cox has admitted she was in the running to be the fourth X Factor judge.

The former Radio 1 DJ was reported to be a possible contender for the role if Mel B decided not to take up her £1 million offer.

After Scary Spice's name was confirmed for the show, alongside Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh, Sara tweeted: "It's been a mad exciting few weeks and I've met some lovely people but I'm not through to boot camp."

The Radio 2 DJ added: "Big ups to Mel b @SimonCowell @TheXFactor."

She wrote: "To be fair I already have my dream job on @BBCRadio2 hosting #soundsofthe80s 10pm every Saturday night."

Mel, who appeared as a guest judge on the ITV show in 2012, has said she will not shy away from delivering reality checks to the show's wannabes.

"I've always thought honesty is the best policy when being a judge and that's what I'm going to bring more of this year - whether it's spotting an incredible singer, giving someone a reality check or debating with Simon over who's got it wrong," she said as she announced she was taking up the job.
