Sarah Paulson left open-mouthed as she spots Madonna at Met Gala
A picture of Sarah Paulson's open-mouthed gape when she spotted Madonna on the Met Gala quickly went viral on Twitter.
Sarah Paulson was left open-mouthed when she spotted Madonna on the Met Gala red carpet on Monday night (01May17).
The American Horror Story actress was just one of the famous faces at the star-studded bash at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
And as she posed for photographs, Sarah suddenly realised that Madonna was standing behind her. The situation led to a photo that is sure to go down in Met Gala history - of Sarah gaping as she stood behind the Vogue singer, pointing.
After composing herself, the actress then approached Madonna and offered to hold the mesh army green shawl that formed part of the singer's camouflage look.
Following the event, Madonna took to Twitter to share a snap of the moment Sarah spotted her, writing: "Hahaahhahahhaahahha. Love you Sarah!" alongside a string of emojis including crying laughing faces, clown faces and clapping hands.
The 42-year-old has frequently spoken of her love of the singer, and revealed during a rapid fire question round with Marie Claire magazine in 2016 that Madonna's Like A Virgin was the first album she ever bought.
She also revealed during a chat with Vogue last week that she was more than a little excited about attending the star-studded event.
"I want to see everyone! I just feel excited I get to shake their hand, and they have to shake mine back. It's a total pinch-me moment," she said.
It's been a busy few days for Sarah, who has been enjoying New York with 74-year-old actress girlfriend Holland Taylor.
On Sunday night, the pair enjoyed a night out to go and see A Doll's House, Part 2 at Manhattan's John Golden Theater, with Sarah taking to Instagram afterwards to share a snap of two martinis, captioning it: "Greatest day with my sweetheart!"
